Mike Picciau, co-owner of Thomas’ Ristorante with his brother Anthony, was kind enough to answer some questions about Thomas’ Ristorante on Main Street in Moorestown.
Can you tell us a little bit more about the history of Thomas’ Ristorante?
Thomas’ has been on Main Street in Moorestown for seven years now! My brother and I took over from a former co-worker of mine. I got my degree in Culinary Arts at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College and couldn’t wait to open up a restaurant of my own. When we saw this opportunity to be right in the heart of Moorestown, we knew we couldn’t pass it up.
What is your favorite part about being located on Main Street in Moorestown?
The best part is the community. It is a very close knit community filled with great people who have been loyal customers. We are very happy we decided to come here and hope to stay as a staple on Main Street.
What is your most popular menu item? Can you tell us a little bit more about your homemade dishes and why using local ingredients is so important?
Our most popular item is the Seafood Caesar Flatbread. We make a crispy flatbread and top it with a large portion of caesar salad, jumbo lump crabmeat and jumbo shrimp. It is a great appetizer to share or you may be tempted to keep it all to yourself!
Both of our parents are from Italy and taught us the value and goodness of a delicious home cooked meal. This is why everything we do is made to order; our pastas are homemade, including our signature ricotta gnocchi, as well as homemade desserts. Everything is made from scratch with local ingredients which gives our dishes a freshness you can taste. We love supporting local businesses because we love giving back to the community.
What’s the key to running a successful restaurant on Main Street?
It is important to stay in touch with the community and the local walking crowd. When the weather is right, we love seating guests out front and seeing the community walk by. The people of Moorestown are really genuine. We also pride ourselves on giving the top notch service our customers expect and serving our families’ Italian recipes using only the freshest local ingredients.
