With some of the highest temperatures still to come this summer, it’s not too late to activities that will cool you down. We’ve found some ways for you to stay local, get out of the heat, and not break the bank.
Hit the Jersey Shore
With so many beautiful shore towns so close to suburban South Jersey, it’s tempting to take the day, the weekend, or even the week and explore the shore!
Only an hour’s drive from Medford, LBI is an excellent one day destination. At just over 18 miles long, you’ll be sure to find a beach that suits you. Beach tags are $7 for the day and can be purchased right on the beach.
Brigantine offers pristine beaches right near Atlantic City, and it’s only an hour and twenty minute drive from Moorestown. Go for the day and make a night of it, too! Atlantic City boasts sophisticated dining like Buddakan and Continental.
Wildwood has plenty to offer, including a boardwalk that stretches 38 blocks, and historic doo wop era architecture all over town. An added bonus? Wildwood is one of the only NJ beaches that lets you on the beach for free – no beach tag required!
With so many things to do, Cape May is a great choice for all types of groups. Less than two hours from Moorestown, enjoy one of Cape May’s many wineries, or Cape May Brewing Co. for tasty libations to help cool you off.
Visit a Water Park
An obvious choice in hot weather, water parks are a great way to cool off and still have fun while doing it! Coco Keys is located right in Mount Laurel at the Hotel ML. With water slides, a lazy river, and an adult-only indoor/outdoor spa, it’s no wonder this park is popular with the whole family.
The Wildwood Boardwalk is famous for its two waterparks – Raging Waters and Ocean Oasis. Don’t forget to check out the package passes for a family of four for both the waterparks and amusement rides on the boardwalk. Hungry after? Check out Mack’s Pizza or the Doo Wop Diner – both located right on the boardwalk.
Stay Inside
Not interested in staying outside in the heat? Not to worry – there are plenty of indoor options to keep you cool, too.
Go to a Movie
When it’s too hot outside, it’s always a good idea to go to a movie. AMC Marlton 8 features reclining seats so you watch in style. Just be sure to bring a blanket or a sweatshirt – it does get cold in there!
Go to the Aquarium
Check out the new exhibit at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, Piranha Falls, where you’ll experience the Amazon with a waterfall, an indoor rainstorm, and of course, red-bellied piranhas.
Play Games
The Funplex in Mount Laurel offers all types of indoor activities to stay cool. Bowling, laser tag, and arcade games are sure to keep you busy all day. Need something more active? Try the Sky Zone in Maple Shade, with trampoline activities for all age groups.
